Sarah Quincy is an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University studying how inequality depends on the push and pull between economic and financial development. As labor markets experienced a race between education and technology in the 20th century, large banks also began to dominate the American financial sector. Sarah brings together both micro and macro approaches to understand how these phenomena have shaped United States economic growth. One strand of her research traces out how the rise of bank branching during the Great Depression induced both short-run industrialization and long-run booms. Her other work highlights the contributions of innovation and higher education to long-run race and class-based income disparities.
